OLIVET COLLEGE

Again, I have painted an important cross section of mid-Michigan with this group of eleven acrylic canvases on Olivet College. The walkways, so prominent to the hill where the college is built, also symbolize the necessary climb in learning. The trees, a symbol of growth with their spring awakening, honor several fine forms of architecture from the late 1800s to the present. A lower tier of three canvases of college buildings and houses complement the others. The campus has certainly changed since its beginning in 1844, and will change in the future. These paintings will remind us of the qualities to be kept, and as a fine example of the many small colleges in the mid-west.

'OMTECO', OLIVET MACHINE TOOL ENGINEERING COMPANY

This is another cross section of mid-Michigan, this time in the field of small industry. It shows the beginnings in black and white, and the family whose relatives began it and continue to run it. The original home, the inside and outside of the industry, and the hobby of old cars gives much life to this group of eight acrylic paintings on canvas. It is another part of mid-Michigan that we need to know and keep.

THE JOHN AND CLARA DAVIS FARM

In some ways now a part of our past, the John and Clara Davis farm gives a cross section of a mid-Michigan farm. The six acrylic paintings as a group show the inside and outside of the farm plus much of the activity of farming. The marvelous huge barn with a cathedral like interior has given me much of the inspiration for these paintings, and I hope that this work will help preserve this site for the future.
